1st March 2017

Now is the time to think about your next Winter break. We are off to Lapland, in the capable hands of Not Just Travel who share some of the wonders to see. And we suggest a couple of books to really get you in the mood for a bit of #literarywanderlust.

LAPLAND

With over 200 days of winter a year, Lapland is without a doubt a magical winter wonderland. Not only is Lapland a beautiful scenic snow escape, full of glittering mountains of ice and breath-taking Nordic wildlife, it’s also home to some amazing experiences and activities everyone needs to tick off their bucket list!

Here are some of Not Just Travel’s favourite Lapland snowy experiences.

The Northern Lights

lapland

There is no way we could talk about Lapland without mentioning the stunning Northern Lights, one of the most incredible natural wonders of the world. The lights, otherwise known as the Aurora Borealis, can be seen throughout the Arctic Circle and won’t fail to take your breath away. Whether you’re trekking through snow at the time or snuggled up under blankets trying to keep warm, it is a fantastic experience everyone must see for himself or herself. A photograph simply can’t explain how magical it is to witness these in person.

Remember the Northern Lights are likely to make an appearance between the months of January and April, so make sure you book your trip away around this time, if it’s something you simply can’t miss.

Snowmobiling

lapland

Snowmobiles are a traditional way of transport in Lapland, used by locals as the perfect little solution for travelling from A to B through the hills of snow and ice. If you are heading on a trip to Lapland, it wouldn’t be right to not take a tour of Lapland by snowmobile. In fact, it’s one of the best (and most stylish) ways to explore the snow-covered Finnish landscape and Nordic wildlife!

 Dog-sledding

For an even more exhilarating experience exploring the Finnish surroundings, why not try traditional dog sledding? If you have had much interaction with huskies before, you will know how energetic they can be and with Lapland’s weather conditions being perfect for the dogs, they are always more than happy to take you for a spin in the snow.

Santa Claus Village and Park, Rovaniemi

njt 5

One for the kids, or simply the big kid inside of you, a trip to Lapland would be incomplete without visiting Santa Claus’ Village! Meet the man himself and treat your little ones to a moment they will never forget, when you enter the magical Santa Claus village full of fun for everyone to enjoy. The village caters for all the family with activities such as sledging, souvenir shops for the kids and restaurants and bars for the adults. More importantly, of course, is Santa’s office that is welcome to all visitors to come great Santa and maybe get a present, or two!

Not far from the village is also an underground amusement park. The kids can enjoy endless sleigh rides with the reindeer while the adults kick back with a hot drink from the ice bar!

It’s important to simply make sure you take in the moments you experience as much as possible. It’s true what people say, a once in a lifetime opportunity to be taken and experienced to the fullest.
