‘This uplifting memoir is testament that in life there are times when there is nothing for it but to scale that mountain’ – The Herald Best Summer Reads 2019
In 1997, at the age of 24, Sarah lost her mother to breast cancer. Alone and adrift in the world, she very nearly gave up hope – but she’d made a promise to her mother that she would keep going no matter what. So she turned to the beautiful, dangerous, forbidding mountains of her native Scotland. This is her heartwarming story of overcoming adversity.

I’ve just finished Arrowood and the Thames Corpses by Mick Finlay, which was an absorbing read!
Hello, at the moment I’m listening to ‘Quentins’ by Maeve Binchy about a restaurant in Ireland. It does have serious moments but it’s such an engaging read and Maeve writes so well and entertainingly.
I am reading Whoopi Goldberg book, which is so hilarious. I bough it in the 90’s, such a uplifting and funny anecdotes by Whoopi and her life and views.
Book I am reading now is Telling Tales by Ann Cleeves – reading is my escape from the house and lifts my mood.
A Gentleman in Moscow, Amor Towles. About a Count under house arrest over 30+ years in a grand dame hotel in central Moscow. Charming, uplifting and the perfect lockdown novel. Now also craving a trip to Russia.
A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini.
I have read this book twice before nevertheless, it still has the power to amaze me. Very uplifting.
I’ve been reading American Dirt by Jeanine Cummins. It’s not particularly uplifting but it is about danger and self-preservation so I guess it’s kind of relevant!
The Orphan’s Tale by Pam Jenoff
I wouldn’t say the book I’m reading right now is in any way uplifting, it’s an American crime thriller but it’s exciting and gripping enough to take my mind off the world outside. And if, as I’m expecting, it has a happy ending then it will be uplifting enough for me.
Relish – Prue Leith – what a life she had led – so far!
I am reading The Alchemist
I could do with a book to read in this present time
It’s a Wonderful Night by Jaimie Admans
Not sure it’s uplifting as such, but it’s very good – Deborah Moggach’s The Carer.
Very close to my heart, having had carers in for 10 weeks following my broken ankle.
And they are all doing a sterling job now, keeping up their visits to those housebound & vulnerable, putting themselves at risk having to travel on public transport!
Don’t know whether you could call it uplifting – Wolf Hall by Hilary Mantel. Tried it before but found the style very offputting, or maybe the time wasn’t right. Giving it another go and have got more into it this time. Just hope I finish it!!
The Little Coffee Shop of Kabul, our first world problems & limitations are as nothing compared to the women portrayed there.
