Destination thriller set in THAILAND (and London)
GIVEAWAY: 3 copies of The Medici Murders by David Hewson – VENICE
18th September 2022
We are delighted to be able to offer 3 copies of The Medici Murders by David Hewson, mystery set in VENICE.
Worldwide entries welcomed!
When a well-known British TV historian, Marmaduke Godolphin, is found murdered in the canals of Venice during carnival, stabbed by a stiletto blade, the Venetian police are eager to have the case solved and cleared up within a day – murder is bad for tourism!
The police recruit the help of retired archivist, Arnold Clover. Godolphin had hired his services on arriving in Venice to help sort through some historical papers of note. These dusty documents may contain previously unknown information about the assassination of the murderer, Lorenzino de’ Medici, 500 years previously.
How coincidental that Godolphin meets his death in the same place as the Medici murderer, Lorenzino, on a cold, dark, bloody night. Can Arnold use his powers of perception to establish a link and solve the murder of Godolphin?
This is SUCH a great read, and especially good on Venice (move over Donna Leon!) that we want as many people to be in with having a chance of winning a copy. The giveaway ends on Saturday, 1st October 2022

Murano, Burano and the other islands dotted around Venice
I would love to go on a gondola and see the Bridge of sighs
If you can, do a small, after hours tour of St Marks Basilica – you can get to see much more in relative quiet.
I’d love to see the Rialto Bridge.
Previously only had a short visit. Missed seeing The Bridge of Sighs. Next time.
Here
I love to sail along the waterways but I believe they are all beginning to disappear.
I would love to go on a gondola on the Grand canal
Have good walking shoes for the many bridges and steps and when you want a coffee or something to eat, wander from St Mark’s Square to the back streets where everything is much cheaper! Though it is, of course, always nice to have a Bellini cocktail near the Rialto!
I’d love to see the canals and try out the local food
I’d like to see the Ponte di Rialto bridge which looks stunning.
I would like to see the Basilica di San Marco
Go on the Grand Canal by Gondola
Taking a ride in a gondola along the canals would be like a dream come true
I would love to see St Mark,s Basilica and the Rialto bridge
I would like to try Venetian food!
I want to go on a gondola. Preferably with a Cornetto!
Top Tip: For a budget friendly trip, stop just outside of Venice centre and buy a bus ticket for the length of your stay that you can use for the bus and boats!
A ride on a gondola is a must. I’d love to go back but the husband didn’t enjoy it!
the gondolas look great
I have never been to Venice, but I would love to go! Just the idea of a city with no roads is amazing.
I would like to visit the Bridge of Sighs, the Rialto bridge and St. Marks Basilica.
l would love to see my favourite Italian ‘dish’ Gino D’ACampo lol
I would just love to wander around the canalside streets and visit the crumbling old churches
I’d love to be in Venice during Carnivale to see the costumes and masks
I’d love to visit the Lido
Jodie Gibson in Venice
I’d love to see the gondolas!
My favourite thing to do in Venice was taking a boat trip to the islands of Murano and Burano, , pretty little islands away from the crowds of Venice city itself.
I loved Venice but especially loved travelling on the vaporetti. The gondolas looked great but were far too expensive whereas you can buy a 3-day ticket for the waterbus, and it is relatively cheap.
I’d love a romantic adult visit to Venice as the last time we went 15 years ago we had two toddlers both in buggies. We spent most of our time trying to stop our two year old from going swimming in the canals and there are so many steps across the many bridges. We did fall in love with Venice and vowed to return as a couple once the children have flown the nest!
I would take a boat out to the islands to escape the crowds and then return in the evening when Venice itself is at its most atmospheric
I would love to revisit Venice but next time, admire the architecture whilst in a gondola. Every visit I discover something hidden, something new. The Gondolas are always there but I still haven’t sat in one.
Just admiring the architecture would be top of my list though I love art and craft so would head for the glassworks, too.
I would love to see the Murano Island Glass Blowing Demo and Workshop
the glass making, as I didnt have time to see it when I was last there
I’ve never been but would love to see the 17th-century Palazzo Gradenigo. It is beautiful.
I’d love to see the gondola’s in venice.
I would like to see the tall buildings which are right up to the canal sides. I’d like to travel in a gondola – Just one Cornetto style!
I’d love to travel in a Gondola!
Find those medieval tucked-away churches and let the ghosts of the past shimmer through your imagination and tell their strories.
I would love to see all the brifges over the canals
never been but it’s on my bucket list would love to sit in the square with a good cup of coffee
I’ve never been to Venice but I’d like to visit St Mark’s Basilica
St Marks Basilica would be my ideal spot.
I would love to visit Murano for the glass-blowing. I have a vase my grandparents brought back in the 70s and I’d love to also buy my own
Rialto Bridge
I’d love to go on a gondola ride.
I would love to ride on a gondola
Loved going on a gondola.
Venice is my favourite city, I have been there in high tide and paddled through the flooded streets, which added to the whole experience.
I have been once and it was so beautiful I dare not return in case it can’t live up to my memories
Would love to visit St. Mark’s Basilica and St. Mark’s Square and cross the Ponte di Rialto
Such an interesting place for a mystery, love to go clue hunting
I half want to go to Venice, but the horror stories of the smell, sinking, prices, etc, really put me off
A great place to visit with all the sights, museums and galleries. I have been there however, had so little time to see everything that I wanted to see.
I would love to revisit The Bridge of Sighs. It’s been a long, long time
May I say “interesting”?
Where to even start! I went to Venice when I was 11 years old and can still remember it vividly. I haven’t been back since but will as soon as I am able. I would love to go to Murano (for the glass), Burano (just to see the vivid colours of the houses), The Bridge of Sighs is a must as is The Basilica of St Marco and The Doge’s Palace. I had better stop now but not before I enjoy the best gelato in Venice from Suso’s.
Would love to go on a Murano Glass Tour x
Every couple of years I visit Venice, love to go to the Bienale and visit the smaller Islands. The scuola grande di San Rocco is my favourite venue.
Venice is one of my bucket list places to go.
Fingers crossed
Love a boat ride
Venice is on my list of places to visit. I just love italian history and culture. Id love to try the gondola rides.
I’d love to go back to Venice one day and would particularly like to take a gondola ride and check out the galleries and museums
This sounds amazing
Got to be a ride on a gondola under all the bridges
We only got to visit Venice once, and that was part of an organised trip, so we only ended up with a couple of hours there.
Managed to get a look around the Muran Glass shop but would love to do the factory tour.
St Mark’s Square really deserved more than the whistle stop visit we crammed in.
The canal side artists also fascinated us, and I would love to have spent a little more time watching them work.
A second visit is turning into a must now that I see my wish list growing! 🙂
I’d like to follow some of the streets and sights mentioned in favourite authors books-of course David Hewson and Philip Gwynne Jones bring Venice alive.
Venice has so much to offer but a must is a Gondola ride to get you in the romantic mood and then St Mark’s Square with its wonderful perspective of 12th century buildings and Canal views, a photographer’s delight. If there is time, a boat trip to Murano where you can visit the glass blowing factory and see how the exquisite world-renowned glass is made.
Love to see the bridgrs
I’ve already been to Venice but I wouldn’t say no to going back again! I would particularly like to visit during the Carnival of Venice as the celebrations look rather spectacular.

To see the canals
Venice is on my bucket list
Would like to wonder about and see as many bridges as possible
I would love to see the Teatro la Fenice and the Peggy Guggenheim collection.
I was last in Venice for my 50th birthday and I would love to return and experience Carnevale, a ride on a traghetto, and of course an Aperol Spritz whilst watching the sunset.
I would love to visit the Venetian island of Murano to see the glass being made
I would like to see the Rialto Bridge
Id love to see the Carnival. With the fantastic outfits and masks, a photography heaven
Having visited once, there are so many things I’d like to see and do again. One of the first would be to find the little back street restaurant favoured by the locals who made us so welcome, especially the night we watched Eurovision with them.
would love to visit Venice to see the gothic palaces.
I would to sit in St. Marks Square and enjoy coffee and cake whilst people watching. I would love an evening on the waterways on a Gondola as the sun is setting, very romantic! Many thanks
I would love to see St. Marks Basilica, have a walk around and enjoy the sites!
St. Marks Square and Basilica, and the Doge’s Palace would be my top two places to visit.
The gondolas
Go to see the Bovolo (snail) which is part of the Palazzo Contarini. It’s an interesting outside spiral staircase which I found by mistake several years ago.
The gondola ride would be very romantic then ending with a nice candlelit meal.
I might stay in Cannaregio again because it’s a quiet area but not far from all the big sites, or maybe I’ll try Castello. The best thing about Venice is just being there and taking in the atmosphere!
Please enter me in the giveaway for The Medici Murders. If I were to visit Venice? I would ride a gondola and make a wish as the boat passes under the bridge. My wish? That’s for me alone to know.
I’d love to go on a gondola
I’d Love to see St Mark’s Square and the Palace of the Doges, then a boat trip to Murano for the beautiful glassware
Looks really good.
I would like to ride across the canal in a gondola. I hope the boatman has on a black and white striped shirt and wears that hat.
I would love to visit Venice one day. My inlaws did warn me that you pay extra to sit down at a cafe. There is a tip
My husband is taking me to Venice for my 50th birthday in December. Looking forward to just wandering about in this magical city.
Church of San Giorgio Maggiore.
LOOKS A GREAT READ
Sounds a brilliant read
I’d love to ride on a gondala whilst eating a cornetto!
I’ve always wanted to visit Venice. Not sure it will ever happen!! I would particularly like to visit St Mark’s Square and in particular St. Mark’s Basilica. Such a beautiful building that you need to see “in the flesh” to really appreciate, I think.
I love Venice, I have lived there for a while so I know it inside out; however, I’d love to explore the mysterious and spooky island of Poveglia in the venetian lagoon, I’ve never had the chance to see it..
Bridge of sighs and the vast network of canals via gondolas – amazing place to visit
Sounds like just my cup of tea!
I would like to see sights such as the Rialto Bridge whilst travelling along the Grand Canal on a gondola
love to have a lasagne 🙂
A ride on a gondola
A visit to St. Mark’s Basilica & Doge’s Palace would be lovely
I would love to see St. Marks Basilica, it is so beautiful that I’d love to admire the architecture close up.
Don’t buy a coffee in Marks Square 0 extortionate!
I would just love to walk around in Venice and take it all in. A place I must go one day!
What I loved to see in Venice??
Marco Polo’s house.
I was giddy. Aged 7 I did a class project on Marco Polo and have been in awe ever since.
My husband arranged via a local walking tour guide for my 50th birthday ( 20 years ago).
Amazing.
The Grand Canal, the Doge’s palace and St. Mark’s Square….
I’d love to see Venice – my Dad loves it so much he went there on both of his honeymoons!
I’m fortunate enough to have visited beautiful Venice , so the first thing I’d do upon visiting again , is head to Harry’ Bar , and order a Bellini . . .
I’d love to visit Murano & Burano, a spot of shopping methinks.
