GIVEAWAY: 3 copies of Trio by William Boyd, set in Brighton

28th November 2021

We are delighted to offer 3 copies of Trio by William Boyd, set in BRIGHTON.3 copies of Trio by William Boyd

You now have a chance to read this wonderful, iconic novel that evokes the Swinging Sixties in Brighton!

A producer. A novelist. An actress.

It is summer in 1968, the year of the assassinations of Martin Luther King and Robert Kennedy. There are riots in Paris and the Vietnam War is out of control. While the world is reeling our three characters are involved in making a Swingin’ Sixties movie in sunny Brighton.

All are leading secret lives. Elfrida is drowning her writer’s block in vodka; Talbot, coping with the daily dysfunction of making a film, is hiding something in a secret apartment; and the glamorous Anny is wondering why the CIA is suddenly so interested in her.

But the show must go on and, as it does, the trio’s private worlds begin to take over their public ones. Pressures build inexorably – someone’s going to crack. Or maybe they all will.

From one of Britain’s best loved writers comes an exhilarating, tender novel that asks the vital questions: what makes life worth living? And what do you do if you find it isn’t?

HOW TO ENTER
  1. You need to be a member of TripFiction. Simply go to www.tripfiction.com and scroll down to the JOIN NOW tab. And we do check!

Enter by midnight, 11th December 2021 and the three winners will be chosen at random. Open UK only. GOOD LUCK!

Benodet in southern Brittany. Can’t recommend it highly enough. We have spent many happy summers there in our caravan. Beautiful bay, sandy beach, clear sea, a river estuary and marina plus a saltmarsh all within easy walking distance. Our bit of paradise on earth, sadly just a bit too far for us now we are 74.

My favorites in the UK are Bude in Cornwall, Croyde in Devon, Rhossili Bay in the Gower and Maria Luisa on the Algarve in Portugal, they are the ones that spring to mind.

I have the good luck to live on the Gower peninsula in South West Wales and in good weather there is nowhere to beat Mumbles. But for the weather, the blue Mediterranean and the restaurants I adored Bandol in the south of France – the part of the riviera where the locals go!

Because it is so compact and every time we visit we are able to take in all the little coastal resorts, I would have to nominate the whole of Cornwall.

If you really just want a single named place, then I love the space and scenic variety of Tenby in Wales!

Brighton I like for the Lanes and the vibe but I do find the pebbly beach disappointing when I am after a proper seaside experience.

I’d recommend Joss Bay, Broadstairs on the Kent coast for a proper seaside experience with a sandy beach and holiday spirit atmosphere. Can easily do a day trip from London too.

Almost anywhere on the Isle of Wight but especially the “Bay towns” of Sandown and Shanklin where the wide crescent of sands between the two towns makes swimming safe and sun-bathing a pleasure.
