GIVEAWAY! – 3 copies of BLOOD BUSINESS by Barbara Nadel: ISTANBUL

13th September 2020

We are delighted to be able to offer you prizes of 3 copies of Blood Business by Barbara Nadel, set in Istanbul. (no. 22 in the Ikmen series)

3 copies of BLOOD BUSINESS by Barbara Nadel

Brothers Ugur and Lokman Bulut are locked in a bitter inheritance battle and need a sample of their mother’s DNA to contest her Will. But when her body is exhumed, her corpse is found to be missing and a fresh body, with its heart removed, has been put in her grave. Assigned to the case, Inspector Mehmet Süleyman quickly realises that the heart has been illegally harvested, and his team has a murder inquiry on its hands.

Meanwhile, retired inspector Çetin Ikmen is tracking down a missing person: Sevval Kalkan, a once-famous actress, who has joined an underground movement called the Moral Maze, whose mission is to help the destitute living on Istanbul’s streets. The unidentified body in the grave cannot be Sevval’s, but her shocking reappearance leads Ikmen to fear that she, too, is a victim of organ harvesting…

Joining forces, Süleyman and Ikmen confront Istanbul’s darkest underbelly to expose the horrifying truth of a city in crisis.

(and do check out her #TalkingLocationWith… feature for us! Death in Scutari and the Karacaahmet Cemetery.. a cemetery always makes a good setting for a crime thriller!)

Travelled there once, but seen it many times in Elif Shafak’s novels. Her 10 minutes and 38 seconds shows an Istanbul that is rich in its past and yet struggling in the modern day. Would love to see how Barbara Nadel has portrayed it in her novel.

    Thanks for the opportunity.

I’d just like to try some kebabs there and see if they are different from what we get served in the UK!

I’ve only been to Turkey once, about 20 years ago. Side was just beginning to be a holiday destination; I loved the markets, the weather, seeing a thousands of years old amphitheatre’s ruins and the food was amazing.
It was the first holiday I’d had where I actually felt a different culture compared to the Canary Islands where it’s like home but better weather.
    I’d love to go back.

The Hagia Sofia is the most stunning building I’ve ever seen and not to be missed going to Istanbul. You will feel like an ant in comparison to its size.

Got to be the hammams where they beat you up (AKA “relaxing massage”), chuck icy water over you (AKA “cleansing”) and leave you feeling like a new person!

BAKLAVA!!! If you go Turkey, try Baklava!! It’s a sweet dish, perhaps similar to that of a pastry. Also, Turkish pizza (lahmacun) is so yummy!! The spices and herbs make it extra tasty!

In pre coronavirus times I would have loved having a leisurely mooch round the Grand Bazaar with my mum. The covered market, warren of streets and the gold, leather and carpets stalls must be a real sight. I bet I could have even bought some top notch and rather exotic souvenirs for the family too!
