Thai Girl
- Book: Thai Girl

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book as it was both an easy read but also a read that got me thinking about the many fascinating cultural differences. I have a Thai friend who I have known now for many years and whom I have visited on many occasions in Thailand. He has never been to the UK as getting a tourist visa is a lot more difficult for Thai people coming to the UK than for westerners going to Thailand. This imbalance in ‘power’ came over very clearly in the book and was explored with knowledge and understanding. Sanuk, the expression used to describe Thais finding fun in their everyday lives was also rather moving as it made me question some of my more minor moans about everyday life. The language used by the author struck me as very authentic and he clearly knows and loves the Thai people with their gentleness and sense of fun.
It is a book I would wholeheartedly recommend although I may be a bit biased as I love Thailand and it was a bit like taking a holiday without having to get on a flight. If you are travelling to Thailand for the first time it is an interesting book as it does explore some facts will which be instantly obvious to you as you explore Bangkok or head to places with a developed tourist industry.
I loved it, I hope you do too.
