Tell us the one place you’d really love to visit in India – and win these fabulous prizes!

18th August 2015

India

India is a breathtaking country from the cities of Rajasthan (Agra, Jaipur, Jodhpur, and Udaipur) in the North and West, down through Mumbai and Goa to the Southern delights of Kerala. There is so much to see, do, and experience.

This month we are offering four fabulous prizes. The first prize is a copy of Anthony Trevelyan’s amazing debut novel The Weightless World, set in India, that traces the search for an anti-gravity machine. It is a first novel, written in a style that captures quite brilliantly the somewhat quirky essence of India. To read the full TripFiction review of the book, please click here. Plus we are including three beautifully designed and Indian themed greetings cards as part of the first prize. The three runner up prizes are copies of the book.

The storyline is a fantastical premise that really does work, and that kept me wanting to find out what happens…It has a magical quality… (from TripFiction’s review of The Weightless World)

To enter all you have to do is fill in the Comments box below, telling us the one place in India you’d really love to visit. The competition closes at midnight UK time on Sunday 30th August, and the winners will be the first four names out of the hat on Monday 31st.

Good luck!

I have never been to India, but my sister has travelled extensively to Mumbai, Jaipur Shimla Karela If I could just see the ‘Taj Mahal’ I would be in heaven. Looks amazing.

I’d like to visit the coastline around Kerala, with my daughter. She travelled there in 2005 as part of a team working with local fishermen to build new boats following their loss in the Boxing Day tsunami. The impact of the tsunami on Indonesia is well documented; its impact on small Indian fishing communities is less well known.

I have been lucky enough to visit India although when I went Mumbai was Bombay. The country is beautiful and the people so friendly and welcoming. I spent 3 weeks in a leper colony in Dattapur so this would be the place I would like to visit if I could ever go again. I would like to see the mango trees I help plant and see how well the irrigation channels are working that I help dig. I would love to visit the staff and see how technology may have help the community.

I would love to hike through the valleys of Ladakh. I’ve always wanted to see the Himalayas.

I’m visiting India next February for a wedding in Lucknow which will be absolutely fabulous, and we’re going to see Jaipur and the Taj Mahal in Agra too. I can’t wait, it will be the experience of a lifetime.

As a great tea lover, I’d love to visit one of the tea plantations, like Darjeeling and stay in Glenburn Tea Estate which is situated in a stunning location, and looks peaceful and serene. But ideally any tour which would be a mix of culture and gastronomy would be perfect

I’m not gonna lie, I don’t really have that much interest in India. Not because of anything, but mostly because I live in Indonesia and we have so many things in common with India; the weather, the spices, even the religion. But one place that I’d love to visit in India, at least once, is Taj Mahal. It’s a majestic building and beautiful too. 😉

Kerala sounds magical but Nagaland mysterious – my Postie has a house in Kerala but also taught the sciences in what he called ‘the best school in Nagaland. I’d love to explore these places and see for myself.

Since pink is my favorite color, I would love to visit Jaipur, The Pink City. The buildings must look wonderful all painted pink! Surely beats a city of dull gray concrete.

I would love to visit Ooty in India. The proper name is Udhagamandalam but it was shortened by the British who used to spend summer there as the weather was so much more favourable. It has been featured on Great Indian Railways on TV and looks so interesting. I would like to take the slow train from Bangalore and see all the scenery and hopefully an elephant or two!

I would like to go to Mumbai to trace the footsteps of my great great great grandfather who was stationed there in the 1820s as an apothecary, where he met and fell in love with his future wife, the young widow of a trader. It sounds like an exotic romance novel, doesn’t it?

If asked where I’d most like to visit in India the answer would be ‘Yes’! I haven’t had chance to go yet, but it fascinates me and I think I’m going to need several visits to see as much as possible. Obviously I’d love to see tigers (or at least attempt to) in Ranthambore and view the Taj Mahal at dawn and sunset, but I’d also really love to visit Varanisi as somewhere totally different to the places I’m used to.
Thank you for teh chance to take part in this.

Being from India it still amazes me at the sheer beauty of my country which is still unexplored by many. To explore one such beauty I want to take a train trip Rameshwaram in the south and proceed to Munnar from there. Especially before or after the rainy season that’s when the nature there is at its best.
Can’t even begin to describe the greenery, color play, the endless ocean.

Imagine waking up to the sound of the Bhagsu waterfall, walk barefoot to spin the giant prayer wheels, picnic in the Himalayas and meditate in the monastery of the Dalai Lama. Dharamsala for me would be my next trip to India.
