WIN a copy of The Peacock Summer by Hannah Richell, set in the Chilterns!

15th September 2019

The Peacock Summer by Hannah RichellWin a hardback copy of The Peacock Summer by Hannah Richell, set in the beautiful Chilterns.

Hidden deep in the dusty wing of an old manor house stands a locked room, forgotten by all – except one. Sixty years ago Lillian Oberon was mistress of Cloudesley, until one glittering summer, when a doomed love affair changed her life forever.

Now frail and muddled, Lillian is the sole guardian of Cloudesley, and of its dark secrets. Only when Maggie, her devoted granddaughter, returns to nurse her – and her own heartbreak – do the walls of the past begin to crumble, threatening to bring the tragic consequences of that summer to light…

Can Maggie unlock her family’s tangled history, before all she holds dear is lost forever?

HOW TO ENTER:

There are Peacocks in the garden at Cloudesley, when the house is at its social peak and visitors are plenty. Which birds do you most like seeing in your garden? Just leave a comment below, here, on this blogpost, in the Comments Section. Do this by midnight, 28th September and it’s open internationally.  First name out of the hat!!!

Good luck. It’s an excellent read!!!

Robins, as they remind me of my grandad! When I used to help him in the garden, we always saw a little robin.

My favorite bird that visits our garden is the hummingbird. We also have many others that visit. Sadly, I’m not sure what some of them are other than the magpies and mourning doves.

I have a pair of Rosellas that feed from the seeds of my pepper tree and I am hopeful that in a few months there might be babies to join them. I love the wonderful colours of their feathers.

I love to watch the small birds at the feeding stations in my garden. The agile bluetits, pretty finches, & the cheeky robin that watches me through the window until I take him his snacks.

I see robins, blackbirds, magpies and jays daily in my garden. Robins are probably my favourite – because they follow me round whilst I’m gardening hoping to find worms.

Definitely robins. Our children were brought up believing that the robins were checking on their behaviour over the year for Father Christmas.

I love to see the shyer birds like wrens, nuthatches, jays and woodpeckers because it feels like such a privilege when they come into the garden. And although they aren’t shy at all, I love seeing families of goldfinches feasting on the seedheads in the flower beds. We never dead head seeding flowers any more because the goldfinches enjoy them so much.
