1941 – A panoply of characters come together around a central moral theme. What should diplomat Oscar Vershuur do with information about the amassing of troops on the Eastern front – invasion is due 22 June and do the Allies know? The information has come from his daughter and once it is is”out’ there the source would easily be traced back to her. What is he to do? This is the central tenet of the story, populated by people who are tenuously linked to the central character. Well written and well translated, it is a good read, but ultimately doesn’t really come together.
