The author charts her adventures on the dating scene in Rome – but that the dalliances (and she doesn’t want to call them boyfriends) are generally emotionally unavailable as her dates wait for a proper “woman” (and I think we are talking Italian here) to come along to marry. Women, other than Italian women, are there for the taking and it is the manner of the taking that disturbs the author, as she has detected a trend. She muses on the sexual shenanigans of the Italian male, in her case mostly called Marco, and the draws some interesting conclusions. The Madonna/Whore Complex figures large… but once one finds a relationship pattern developing, I suspect it is time to see what part we – as the common denominator – might be playing in the whole picture and that is not really addressed and is a gap waiting to be filled.
