So accurate your feet feel wet!
- Book: Rivers of London
- Location: London
- Author: Ben Aaronovitch
The blurb on the book jacket makes it clear this is a London-based police procedural, with a twist. And that’s exactly what it is. Well, with a couple of twists…
But what got to me was the precise detail of Central London, particularly around Covent Garden. I spent far too much time in and around Covent Garden pubs 15 years ago and I could absolutely follow the action in my head without any need for a map, so precise are the geographical descriptions.
And unlike on certain TV shows, when the action moves elsewhere in London, it takes the right amount of time to get there. No walking from Dover to Nottingham by nightfall in this book!
The feel of the locations, the frustration of trying to get around Central London by car or public transport, everything is spot on.
I don’t know if this book can conjure up London to someone who’s never been, but if you’ve even spent a day here, it’ll bring you straight back.
