This is a short, powerful novel dealing with the complicities and accomodations of power within Italian politics. The story begins with a double-murder. A local pharmacist get a  death threat in the mail, cut and pasted from a newspaper. Murder ensues. This is very much about the notion of omertà, the code of silence. People know more than they let on, but they remain stumm. Interesting read, slightly jarring translation and perhaps could do with a modern re-jig.
