Growing up in Wilde Lake seems like an ideal life. Lu Brandt has a wholesome life with her dad and brother growing up in 70s in Columbia Maryland. It was interesting to read about idealistic Columbia back then when everything was new and fresh. How the community was accepting of the only African American family.
How murder even if it is accidental is swept under the rug if it involves the son of a prominent attorny.

But nothing is as it seems. Fast forward to current day and everything unravels when Lu prosecutes a murder case as state attorney an office her dad once held.
A cut and dry case reveals alot more about childhood friends and even her own family.

Reading this story I can easily imagine living in Columbia Maryland.

Laura Lippman delivers a strong story about life and love.
