Not a great read

I found this book disappointing. I came across the website while looking for reading inspiration for my next holiday and I happened to already be reading the Sapphire Widow after buying it on a 99p Kindle special offer. This is exactly the type of book I love – exotic location, history, romance, intrigue, derring-do but this was so disappointing. The dialogue is so clunky, the plot lines bizarrely entwined, eg the unecessary French maid. It just leaves you expecting more and it never being fulfilled. I think if you were travelling here on holiday it would be a diverting read and does give some of the atmosphere of the location, but in terms of a stand alone book, disappointing.
