I picked this book up at the airport, just because of the title and because I was going off to Bangkok. What a joy to read about the neighbourhood I was staying in, Soi 5, some of the action was just a couple of roads further along, seedy Bangkok, food, customs – it’s all there and every time I lifted my eyes from the book to look at the cityscape from the pool hotel I felt everything was in real 3d. However had I read this book and not gone to Bangkok, I really wouldn’t have rated the quality so much, so I am in a quandary about the rating I should give it! But because it is pacey and conjures up Bangkok, I will give it 3.
