This book is about the relationship between a brother and sister as they grow up, initially in Ilford and then in Cornwall. Joe, the brother, moves to work in New York. It is a beautifully crafted book, funny but also very thought provoking. There are descriptions of days of leisure on the waterways of Cornwall,the smells of being near the sea and the bed and breakfast that the family run.
Wonderful, different relationships develop through this book and a shocking time around 9/11. It also deals with some difficult domestic issues but with always the escape on a boat for fishing or relaxing.
I really enjoyed this book, it was easy to read and could not put it down.
