Lansquenet Revisited
- Book: Peaches for Monsieur le Curé (Chocolat 3)
- Location: France
- Author: Joanne Harris
I had this book, the third in the Chocolat series, on my iPad whilst on a holiday in France. We were on a river boating trip and out first overnight stop was at Vianne. The name of this beautiful small town of course is the name of the main character. If I remember correctly she is named after her birthplace. So I decided to read this book whilst on the River Baise to be able to soak up the atmosphere. The story sees Vianne returning to Lansquenet eight years after leaving. Vianne’s protagonist from Chocolat is in trouble and an unlikely relationship starts up. There is the influence of the Muslim population that has grown taking the place of the ‘river rats’ as a source of interest and at times conflict between the characters. I enjoyed the book but because I was there in France and could really identify with the setting and environment. I recognised the name of the river Garrone that I had been close to. But it is not a book that will be in my top ten and in some ways I was disappointed by it after being completely enthralled by ‘Lollipop Shoes’. It was a flowing story and easy to read as a holiday book.
