Fabulous – India really comes to life through writing

I am going to eulogise about this novel. It is a great storyline and I was totally transported to the India just as British Rule is beginning to fall apart. The writing is wonderful and the three female characters are each very individual and develop psychologically as the story moves along.
There is one incident about 4/5ths of the way through where I felt that it got slotted in from somewhere else, it is clearly a device to move the story along which somehow didn’t “fit” into the storyline for me, but despite this it is a book that will stay with me for a long time. I learned so much about the era, about India… who remembers old-fashioned galoshes? Just lovely. Interested in India? Then I think you might well like this!
