Great atmosphere

I asked to review this book as I love East Yorkshire but not fan of ghost stories so I thought it would do me good to read out of my genre comfort zone (crime/police procedurals).
I love Helen Dunmore’s poetry and her prose is as beautiful. I got quite uncomfortable reading this and had to shake myself when I put it down to get back to reality.
The East Yorkshire landscape lurks in the background but never intrudes – the people and the past are what stay with you. This has made me want to explore abandoned RAF stations and visit Suffolk where the heroine originated.
