Paris is Wonderful
- Book: The Loveliest Chocolate Shop in Paris
- Location: Paris
- Author: Jenny Colgan
Having recently read and enjoyed Jenny Colgan’s Meet Me At The Cupcake Cafe, I was really looking forward to The Loveliest Chocolate Shop in Paris.
Sadly, I was a little disappointed. The city of Paris is most definitely the star of this novel. The descriptions of the city are wonderful and made me want to jump straight on to the Eurostar for a wonderful weekend of food. The tiny alleyways, the shops and especially the world of chocolate are lovingly described and come alive from the page.
However, the characters and the plot line were a disappointment. I think back to some of the characters that populated the Cupcake Cafe and wonder where that imagination went? The characters that populate this book are, on the whole, annoying. I found it very difficult to empathise with Anna in any way at all and much preferred the story of Claire that is set in the 1970s. Claire encouraged Anna to visit Paris and her story is interweaved into Anna’s modern-day adventure.
It’s an easy to read story, the descriptions of the city are beautiful, but I felt let down by the plot.
