we havent been able to travel as we hoped becasue Grandad was too frail. He has died which is sad, but means that once lockdown ends we will be able to travel again! we have never been to Scotland, embarrassing as that is to admit!

Would love to see the Ring of Brodgar
Before retiring from teaching I produced a musical based on the Romans and Hadrian’s Wall. The place has always fascinated me yet I’ve never got round to visiting it. When we can get out again in our campervan we might get there but sadly I will be too old to walk the length of it !

I’d love to visit Carn Euny again, it’s fascinating and very atmospheric
I’m a metal detectorist and I would love to so many sites for the history alone. Bannockburn is on my bucket list, even though detecting is not allowed the history alone makes it worth a visit.
I recently watched a TV programme about the stone circles in the outer hebrides,
the Ring of Brodgar Stone Circle and Henge is particularly interesting. So remote and yet 5000 years ago they built such intriguing and mysterious monuments.

Caernarfon Castle – South Wales features quite heavily in my genealogy research and I would love to just wander around and get a feel for the place. I love connecting with my ancestors (drives my husband mad when we’re in Tesco’s car park and I remind him that this area was my great grandad’s house when he was small) but have not yet gotten to Wales for that branch of the family.

Bodiam Castle. Visited this many times as a child but never as an adult. Would like to see if it’s the way I remember it.
I would love to visit Stonehenge close up as I have only ever seen it from a distance, when passing it in a car on the way to the West Country. It was a tantalising glimpse of a fascinating site and I wish to return there in the future to discover more.

Note sure if my choice is OK but I have always wanted to visit Ightham Mote in Kent. In the 1970’s I read the novel Green Darkness by Anya Seton, the story and the description of the medieval moated manor house was wonderful . I’m in my 60s’ now so I doubt that I will ever get there.
I love Dover and Leeds castles but would really love to visit Hever castle as I’ve not been since I was a child.

I’ve been to a lot of the ancient monuments in Great Britain – but not to Hadrian’s Wall! So that would be my choice, and I’d do it as a long-distance walk as well to really soak up the landscape and atmosphere.

Fishbourne Roman Palace is just up the road from me, I always used to volunteer as a parent helper to accompany the local primary school children on their educational trips….sure I enjoyed it more than they did.

Severndroog Castle in Orleans Woods, Shooters Hill in Greenwich. The first stone was laid in 1784 and it has a tower with an awesome view over London. Oh and Ruth Galloway (in the Elly Griffiths books) told her parents she was pregnant there.
