Acacia Villas, Brighton is a pretty well-to-do suburban enclave where nothing much – one might imagine – happens. But Rae is in possession of a book, handed to her by Priscilla, an elderly neighbour at no. 21, who then is found prostrate on the ground, not quite dead but not altogether alive either.
Oh, how tempting it is to peak into the diary, which has chronicled the comings and goings of the inhabitants of the street. Too tempting a prospect!
The story is told from several different angles, including diary entries, so we do get to see first hand what Priscilla has been observing and the conclusions that might be drawn.
This is a well told story, written in a convincing style with a little dry humour. It takes a bit of effort to really tie down the characters and get a sense of clarity as the story progresses, but overall the well told storyline is a gripper.
