This is an enjoyable book about a young boy growing up in a wealthy family compound in Thailand, great for imagery, very evocative – klongs, scented air: “As evening falls in our pocket universe, the grounds of the estate are ablaze with thousands upon thousands of coloured lights. They have been strung in all the mango trees in the orchard. They pepper the jasmine and the phuttachaat bushes….” PP Patpong
