The Silent Patient by Alex Michaeliides, a novel of psychotherapeutic dynamics set in London.

Alicia Berenson killed her husband and has been admitted to for psychiatric care at The Grove. She has refused to speak since the event and just goes through her days without uttering a single word.

Theo Faber is a psychotherapist who is really up for a challenge. He is fascinated by this complex case and soon applies for a job at The Grove so he can inveigle himself into the team caring for her.

He is persistent about how he would like to treat her and soon he is given permission to see her on a one-to-one basis. It is quite extraordinary how he can bulldoze his way through professional boundaries but he is a clever manipulator who clearly wants to help – despite the prospect of limited chances of success with someone who clearly has deep-seated psychological issues.

It is well written, gripping, at some level fairly implausible but  decent read for sure.
