Demetrio Sord is almost 30 and has been working on a large ranch. Finding life boring he starts to visit a brothel where he meets Mireya and their adventures become ever more daring. He is asked to return home for a wedding at Christmas and once at home meets virgin Renata, with whom he falls in love. On returning to Mireya, he discovers that she is now looking for marriage. His increasingly complex life is set against a background of Mexico as it becomes increasingly industrialised.
