Jasmine (Jazz) lives in Berkeley, CA and is the child of an Indian Mother and a white Father. At 15 she is already running a small business with Steve, taking photos of tourists in front of Landmarks. Jazz’ Mum has been asked to set up a clinic for pregnant women at the orphanage in Pune, where she grew up and the whole family makes the transition. Most of the book takes place in Pune during the magical time of the Monsoon, as Jazz works out how to deal with her new environment, leaving Steve behind and family constructs.
