Camille Bayliss is married to Ben, the famous, hot-shot lawyer about town. As the novel opens, “Camille” is sitting in a bar but it isn’t her, it is Aubrey Price, for some reason pretending to be her.

The two women know each other and this is all part of a dastardly plan.

Camille and Ben seem to have a wonderful marriage, he is planning on having children to run around the carefully designed and curated house. He has BIG plans, it would seem. But before the story really gets going, there is evidence that Ben is keen to keep tabs on his wife. She is fully aware of his actions and counters his controlling nature with machiavellian strategies of her own.

Then Ben is found dead, murdered in his own home and of course suspicion falls on his nearest and dearest, his work colleagues and associates. There are innumerable secrets amongst a host of devious protagonists, with backstories and connections that make this a quick-fire read.

The action takes place largely over the months of September and October and it pays to monitor the time frame – given with each opening chapter – otherwise the story feels a bit jumbled, and ultimately can leave the inventive narrative feeling a little jagged.
