This is the author’s second novel and for me, a move on from the first. Here she tackles the subject of reporting from war torn countries and exposes the harsh reality behind the news on our screens. And of course this is particularly poignant given what is happening in Ukraine at the moment.

Sami is a young reporter, just starting out and has a bit of backroom job. She wants more and when she has the chance to accompany Kris, a world weary but talented and well known photographer, she is off like a shot! The life as an itinerant reporter is tricky, as she soon discovers, as they delve deeper into life on the road. But she has talent which is soon recognised and she goes out into the field.

This is a well paced novel that has a good sense of reality and grit.
