This is a warm, charming tale of Chicago living Oswald who is told by his doctors that he has only a few months to live unless he moves somewhere warmer. We follow him to a small community in Alabama where he ends up somewhat by chance, whose mix of residents are described in affectionate detail by Fannie Flagg. The author brings to life the small yet important aspects of small town life and community spirit in Alabama, as well as painting a vivid picture of riverside wildlife in the area. I hadn’t heard of Fannie Flagg before but would read more of her work having read this enjoyable book.
