I was amazed at how well this novel represented Lewis and Harris. It represents its people, the making of Harris tweed, Black (and White) houses, and some of the history of the island very well, including the controversial annual guga hunt. As we traveled on the island, I honestly felt I was returning to somewhere I had been before, thanks to this novel. Although the murder mystery is fictional, the place represented in the novel is oh-so-real. The author is originally from this area and has written a series of books sited here and nearby. fully recommend this read to anyone traveling to this lovely island. (And I recommend a visit to the island as well. It was one of our favorite stops during our trip to Scotland.)
