Colette is one of my favorite authors and Cheri is one of my favorite books. I first read it many years ago and have reread it twice since. Maybe because in rereading you catch new things, or maybe because each time I’ve been older, the books seems to have changed over the years and gotten better each time.

Can we die of love? Or because we realize we threw it away and there will never be another? Colette knows more about love than anyone (and knows it is an art) and much of what she writes about in her novels is really about herself, her lovers, and her friends.

Why is this categorized as historical fiction? Colette was born in 1873 and wrote of her own period.
