1808 is a great opportunity for those that are curious about the origins of the cities. In this specific case the author narrates the historical move of the Portuguese Royal family to Brazil to escape from Napoleon.
Despite being a Professor of History and the entire book based mainly on documents and facts, Laurentino Gomes writing style drag us smoothly to a journey in time.
After reading this book one can understand better the Brazilian culture for courtesy and the importance of the royal Portuguese family to build our people and the city of Rio as it is today.
