Awesome book which really brings the historical Madrid to live
- Book: Winter in Madrid
- Location: Madrid
- Author: C J Sansom
Incredible book which digs into the different points of view of Spanish history, from religion to politics, passing through espionage and the reality of a city and a country who suffered a Civil War and when it finished still had doubts about the power of a fascist dictator who stayed in power until 1975. The book takes mostly place in Madrid, going through amazing barrios (neighbourhoods) like “La Latina” or “Carabanchel”, showing the character of both left and right people on those days. It also shows communist and fascist ideas, and tries to, in my opinion, show an unbiased and realistic point of view. It also takes place in Cuenca, a small city between Teruel and Madrid with it’s famous Casas Colgantes (Hanging Houses) and some cities in England. The story itself is gripping and makes you feel excited all through the book. In my Top5 favourite books!
