beautiful evocation of location
- Book: Sea of Lost Love
- Location: Cornwall, Southern Italy
- Author: Santa Montefiore
There is always a good setting in this author’s novels and this is no exception. Puglia is brought to brimming and colourful life.
In the opening pages we meet the cast list and it is key not to feel overwhelmed by the innumerable characters that pass through the story. They eventually find their place…
Celestria Montague (a great name for a charismatic protagonist!) is spending the summer in the ramshackle and splendid house in Cornwall by the sea. Celeberations are under way for her father’s milestone birthday but the night ends in tragedy. The family may now lose Pendrift Hall and her grandfather convinces her that she must look into the night’s events and save the family home.
She finds herself heading for Puglia and the Convento di Santa Maria del Mare, where she chance upon a stranger… this author always has romance at the heart of her novels and this is no exception.
Cornwall and Puglia are beautifully brought to life, so much so that the reader might feel they have had a holiday. There are twists and turns that perhaps are a little predictable but it rolls along very nicely and makes for a pleasant and easy read.
