Beautifully written…

This book is told through the eyes of July, who provides the Leitmotiv and the storytelling. I guess for me it was a story that came and went, some riveting parts and some that I found myself skimming. I did however find myself brought up short by the denouement about ¾ through. The style I found a little confusing. Generally, though, a good read, however i much preferred A Small Island. As far as being set in Jamaica I thought it was really informative about slave culture and attitudes, however it didn’t “convey” too much of the setting.
