I had this novel pressed into my hand as I was on my to the Wimbledon Semis on 5.6.13.

Written by top tennis player Monica Seles, the novel focusses on Maya, from a poor background who is given the opportunity to study tennis at the prestigious Academy. This is no place for wallflowers. She has to get stuck in and find her way amongst contemporaries who largely are more affluent than her. Shenanigans with brothers Travis and Jake, oh, and Nicole – is a she a true friend or not? Chloe and Renee….Along the way there is samba dancing, a trip to meet handsome Diego and plenty of Birkins, Chloe and Manolos. How many people get invited to a private drive-in cinema? And as for the Great Framed Poster heist… !!! It will a decent read for young adults who like fast paced romance, but where was the tennis? I think there were only a couple of occasions where it got a mention…but you do get some in depth analysis of a Tweener. Locations is Florida, but apart from it being hot, hot, hot, it is not a book to evoke the place.
