It is set in Manchester, there are indications of the setting but what gives it the background is the wonderful descriptions of the 80s, Chaka Khan, Cameo, Fun Boy Three, Bananarama – it so well describes the era and Britain in the 80s. The story itself is horrific of childhood abuse within the family, the author’s own childhood, and the attitude then of society towards an agressor within the family midst. A lovely writing style, even some humour. Brilliant. Best book I have read this year (March 2012)
