At first the Lapland setting of this family drama may seem irrelevant, included only for novelty value and exoticism, but the harshness, coolness and beauty are quite appropriate. It’s a moving tale of identity, family history and trying to escape the past. It deals with the extent to which our sense of self is influenced by how others see us, and the extent to which personal reinvention is possible, or desirable.
I found it moving and sensitively written, with some dashes of sly Nordic humour.
