To be fair, “Where the Crawdads Sing” written by Delia Owens, could have been anything from a one star to five stars as my opinion shifted so often whilst reading the book.
It has an incredibly descriptive narrative with heavily accented Deep South dialogue, which is at times hard to follow but there’s so little of it to be fair it’s not a major issue.
The story in itself is brilliant and this would be why I would have awarded it five stars but the constant poems thrown in and a little too much nature detail, lowered my enjoyment and there were times I skimmed paragraphs.
I do believe this needs to be read by dedicated mystery readers, it has been very intelligently and cleverly written and I do enjoy reading books with intense details at times – though it certainly wouldn’t be my preferred choice of genre. I did enjoy it (I think) and would recommend, just not to everyone.
