I fell in love with Whitstable when I first visited 4 years ago. Sadly, it’s a long journey from Northumberland, but Disappearance at Oare transported me back there.
Pearl, a private investigator and restaurant owner launches into searching for Steven Scott who had suddenly disappeared 7 years ago. The investigation takes you to many places near Whitstable, Faversham, Seasalter, Canterbury and many more. So, Pearl in her search, putting together her investigation takes you on a tour of the area, with good descriptions of the sea, beach and harbours.
Pearl develops the investigation, putting herself at risk, supported by McGuire, a police detective and much more, who helps to find information but also in concluding the case.
I very much enjoyed the sense of location in this book. The storyline was solid but I did not really connect with Pearl. I’ve reflected upon this since finishing the book as I enjoy reading this genre. However, where this should be a stand alone book, I think if I had read the early books about Pearl I would have enjoyed it more. So maybe start at the beginning of the series.
