I am a sucker for books that have a great sense of place; that draw you into another world or culture. This book has it by the spadeful. The colours, sights, sounds and smells of Marrakech just jump off the page. Rich in atmosphere, this book allows you to observe the day to day lives of people from another culture while interweaving a clever thriller into the mix. This book gets beneath the surface of what the tourists see and explores the gritty, dark and grim underworld. Despite this, or perhaps because of it, it is clear the author has a deep love of the Moroccan people, culture and mores.
