Fantastic attention to historical detail

I enjoyed this book for most of the read – it races along through the countryside, evocative of local detail, gritty determination of Mary Bowes. Fascinating that one can visit her estate at Gibside and that the phrase “stoney broke” comes from the union between Mary and Lothario, Andrew Stoney. The last 50/100 pages towards the end, when she is racing around Northern England could have been a bit shorter, but this doesn’t detract from the overall read.
