- Book: In the Company of the Courtesan
- Location: Venice
- Author: Sarah Dunant
This book bring 16th century Venice to life and the narrative by the dwarf Bucino is a perfect sop to the lovely high ranking courtesan Fiammetta and it gives an insight into the hardships of the times (especially if you were poor).
There are historical characters such as Titian and Aretino and lots of details and information on the period, such as how the courtesans would attract clients at church and why the convents were so full of the daughters of nobles. Unfortunately I felt there was not much of a plot to the story but it was a very good read nevertheless by an author I have not come across previously and I will certainly look out for more of her works.
