This is a magnificent book, drawing on years of research and eye-witness account to create fiction that describes fact. There is a narrative focus on the impact of the civil war on communities and women in particular. On addition to the interethnic violence, the novel also casts a light on the Tamil on Tamil violence both throughout the war and in its closing months. In the present, the twin challenges of peacebuilding and reconciliation continue, with the newly elected government making national unity one of its three priorities. Highly recommended.
