Great research, together with very readable prose that flows along really well. Central Park for the homeless, how terrible it must have been after the Wall Street Crash. Rich and poor pushed together. I kept reading because I really wanted to know how the story progressed.
The friendship between Ellie and Sheila took some belief as the storyline developed, I feel – I couldn’t see how Ellie would tolerate the increasingly erratic behaviour. But such is fiction and I enjoyed reading to the end. And I would have loved to have read this before I went to New York as it would have fed me some interesting info about the past, and how the city is what it is today. Echoes of the past can still be heard in the buildings and byways of the city.
