Half blood blues
- Book: Half Blood Blues
- Location: Berlin, Paris
- Author: Esi Edugyan
This book is set mainly in Berlin and Paris at the start of World War two. I initially found it quite difficult to get into due to the language used but I think this could have been due to the fact that I was reading it on holiday and my brain had gone into lazy mode. Once you get used to the slang, the language that is used helps to create the mood of the period and the people you are reading about. It’s an interesting story but you don’t get what’s really going on until near the end and then it all seems to fall into place. Well it did for me anyway! I enjoyed the book as it evoked an atmosphere of the war from a different perspective to any books that I have read before and for that alone its worth reading. It also explored the world of jazz and blues including Louis Armstrong as part of the tale. So all in all a book worth reading even if it did take a little concentration at times.
