Patrick Hamilton’s *Hangover Square* in set in a pre war seedy part of London .

Blundering Henry Bone is obsessed with the spiteful, malicious and rather beautiful Netta, an aspiring but talentless actress.
Hamilton’s use of the most exquisite English language transports the fortunate reader to 1939 London where individuals live solatary lives bed sitting rooms, gas rings and the shilling electric meter. The sincere and simple Henry Bone lurches between plotting Nettas murder and spending too much money taking her out. All of this combined with his schizophrenic episodes makes this a compelling read.
