This is a memoir telling the experience that the author had whilst in Kenya looking for the magic behind the success of Kenyan runners. It provides an amazing insight into the dedication and determination that Kenyan runners have to their sport. I was filled with admiration.
It also reveals what it is like to live in Kenya. One of the marathons is run through the bush where helicopters hover to scare away the lions. A very different danger to running most marathons.
It made me full of admiration. I read it because I was interested in what it is that creates the success of the Kenyans. Finn discovers that it is a mixture of many things.
I have not visited Kenya but it is on my list of places to go to and I will look at the people and the place in a different way having read what focus and single minded determination these people have.
It is a memoir and at times I felt that some of the content was superfluous but maybe I would not have got so much out of it if it had been shorter.
