July – what a character

This is a well written book, easy to read but I found myself losing interest from time to time. But the story would advance and I once again became involved. How real it is about slavery I do not know but the novel follows the life of July or Marguerite as her mistress calls her, just because she likes the sound of it. I liked the style of writing, July retelling her life story from old age. It has not made me want to visit Jamaica but perhaps given me a little insight into slavery from one perspective.
