I enjoyed this detective novel for a number of reasons, not least the characterisations, the credibility of the plot and the setting of Portsmouth, a British seaside town struggling against decline. The protagonist is a detective who’s hobby – for once – is birdwatching, as opposed to the usual drink, women, depression or obscure American rock/jazz music. Definately worth a read. (J.
